New City Elementary School - Media Center, Art Room,
Computer Lab

Michael Shilale Architects, LLP (MSA) has a
long history with the Clarkstown Central
School district. In 1995 MSA implemented a
district wide technology upgrade. This
project brought fiber optic cable and the
needed electrical upgrades to every school
in the district. The 2.5 million dollar
construction project was completed on time
and under budget.
This latest effort is directed to bring to
this elementary school a state of the art
Media Center. Media Centers are the focus of
a nationwide effort to improve literacy in
our schools. Research shows a well-designed,
functional and attractive Media Center along
with talented and highly trained staff makes
a significant difference.
An inspiring Art Room to permit more and
larger project based learning will replace
“Art on a Cart”. A new computer lab will
free up existing classroom space and offer
an improved, glare free environment.
The addition will help connect the east and
west wings of the school to improve
circulation and create a safe, enclosed
courtyard for the kindergarten classes.
MSA designed a daylighting system for the
new spaces that will reduce electrical usage
and has been shown to improve academic
performance.
